A devastating 6.8 magnitude earthquake struck the High Atlas Mountains of Morocco on September 8, destroying villages and killing almost 3,000 people.
Thankfully, the Berber women we work with who live in the Anti Atlas Mountains and produce our Argan and Prickly Pear Seed Oils were unharmed, as was our Moroccan Beldi Soap maker. Sadly, our longstanding charitable partner, the beloved boarding houses of Education for All, Morocco were very close to the epicenter and suffered significant damage to the houses. One of the young girls who lived in the boarding homes did not survive and many others lost loved ones and their homes.
For one week we donated all proceeds from the sale of our products to EFA. Thanks to the outpouring of support, including more than $6,0000 raised via the purchase of Kahina products last week, the homes of EFA are able to rebuild. The focus now is to provide a safe and stable environment for the girls so that they can stay focused on their education. We continue to donate 1% of all revenue from the sale of our products across all channels to this worthy organization.
Education for all Morocco provides safe and free boarding to girls from the High Atlas Mountains of Morocco so that they may continue their education beyond the third grade and attend schools more centrally located.
