Kahina’s Call to Action for East Africa Crisis
While we at Kahina Giving Beauty are committed to helping the impoverished women of Morocco, there are times we feel we need to turn our attention to urgent problems in other parts of the world.
Now is one of those times.
The worst drought in 60 years has devastated parts of Somalia, Ethiopia, and Kenya, prompting the United Nations to declare a famine July 20th.Dadaab, the largest refugee camp in the world, offering relief to those escaping famine and a brutal civil war in Somalia, is 320,000 people over capacity and growing every day by the thousands.Aid efforts are chronically under-funded.What’s more, women and children are among the hardest hit.Children are most susceptible to malnourishment and many die on the way to the refugee camps or upon arrival.Violence against women is commonplace.
I want to help and I hope you will join me.
In an effort to extend aid where help is needed most urgently, Kahina Giving Beauty will donate $10 from the price of EACH product on our website from 8/1 to 8/7.Proceeds will go to support the International Rescue Committee (IRC) East Africa drought relief program.A substantial 92% of all donations to the IRC go directly to their humanitarian programs. The International Rescue Committee is continuing to provide water, food, health care and other lifesaving aid to thousands of people in Somalia, and in neighboring Ethiopia and Kenya.
Funding is urgently needed to address the most pressing humanitarian needs including: clean water, basic sanitation to prevent the spread of disease, emergency health care, nutrition support (especially for children under five), protection of women and children (particularly girls), and safe, reliable livelihoods for those who have lost crops, livestock, and other sources of income.
Please share and spread the word to raise awareness and funds.
IRC, a not-for-profit organization, is dedicated to providing humanitarian aid, relief and resettlement to refugees and other victims of oppression or violent conflict.
