Inspiring Woman – Aung San Suu Kyi
As a pro-democracy campaigner in Myanmar and the leader of the opposition party there, Aung San Suu Kyi has spent more than 11 eleven of the past 19 years in some form of detention under Myanmar’s military regime. She remains under house arrest, despite health problems. Aung San Suu Kyi was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1991 for her efforts to bring democracy to her country.
We honor her as an international symbol of heroic and peaceful resistance in the face of oppression.
