Now through Monday at Chelsea Market’s Independent Designer Pop Shop, Corrente is selling its fall collection of leather goods made and designed locally in New York City. We had the pleasure of meeting Corie, one of the owners & designers, who designs at her studio in the Brooklyn Navy Yard and sells at her boutique at 179 Orchard in the Lower East Side. Though leather isn’t for everyone, we loved what Corrente had on display, especially the black-on-black La Garçonne Satchel, pictured above. Corie explained her inspiration was Coco Chanel- chic, functional, structural, masculine-effeminate. We liked the Art Deco-vibe and details, and the fact that it can be custom ordered.
Corrente chooses to keep production high quality, local and small-scale, “genuine and conscientious”— all business objectives/standards Kahina Giving Beauty identifies with and appreciates. “At Corrente, we believe in attention to detail, in quality over quantity and in relationships. That’s why we have a production team of three, a design and marketing team of two and a great team of friends and family who we couldn’t exist without.”
