I just came back from a panel discussion of Women Artists in Morocco moderated by Assia Benselah Alaoui, the Ambassador at Large to HM the King of Morocco. Panelists included young rapper, Soultana, singer/composer, Francoise Altan, and several visual artists, all part of a thriving cultural scene in Morocco.
These women profoundly express through their art and words the dynamic and growing influence of women in Morocco. Since Morocco began social and economic reforms under King Mohammed VI, it has signaled great progress for women. As we currently witness an “Arab Spring”, Morocco can serve as a model for the rest of the Arab world and deserves our support. As Mme. Alaoui describes her counter, it is a “laboratory of a new society.”
